Making Space for New Voices: The Politics of Editing in South Africa

Abstract This
article looks at the dilemmas and challenges of editing in the very
specific milieu of contemporary South Africa, where historically
sidelined voices are just beginning to find their literary presence, and
the editing process often involves a certain amount of enabling. The
editor's role is to walk the delicate tension between the experiential
and expressive authenticity of these 'emerging' voices, and the
